Results from Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League games in Thompson

The Manitoba Blizzard and Saskatoon Swat of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League went head-to-head in two regular season games this weekend at the TRCC.

 

The Swat won both games.  Saturday's score was 6-3.  Sunday's was 7-2.

 

There are four local players on the Blizzard.  They include William Lutz, Evan Ritchie, Isaac Babulic and Dave Saunders.

 

Lutz had a goal and two assists over both games.

Knights of Columbus Track Meet Results

This past Friday, the Riverside Rams came away with the top spot at the Knights of Columbus indoor track meet.

 

They unseated the Westwood Vikings who have claimed the title for the previous 16 years.

 

The Rams earned 156 points, followed by the Westwood Vikings with 112 points.

 

Next up were the Deerwood Dragons with 99 points, the Burtnwood Bobcats with 65, La Voie du Nord with 58, the Juniper Jaguars with 37 and the Wapanohk Wolves with 15 points.

 

Congratulations to all the participants and their coaches.

RBC Training Ground Event comes to Thompson

The RBC Training Ground event takes place tomorrow starting at 9 am at the TRCC. This is an Olympic athlete identification program. It's open to athletes ages 14 to 25. It's free to attend but you must register ahead of time. Go to rbctrainingground.ca.

Lacrosse Action this weekend at the TRCC

The Manitoba Blizzard and Saskatoon Swat lacrosse teams play Saturday at 7:30 pm in the C.A. Nesbitt arena in the first of two regular season games.

 

The second game goes Sunday at noon at the arena.

 

Four local athletes are playing for the Manitoba Blizzard.  They are Evan Ritchie, Isaac Babulic, David Saunders and William Lutz.

 

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for those 14 and under.

Knights of Columbus Track Meet

The Knights of Columbus track meet is today at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.

 

Competition runs from 8:30 am until around 4 pm and finals begin around 6:30 after the Opening Ceremonies.

 

The winning school will be announced at approximately 9:30.

 

Athletes are students from Grades 4 - 8, participating in track and field events.

Three Thompsonites Up For Sport Manitoba Award

Three Thompson residents are nominees for a provincial volunteer award.

 

Murray Kissick, Sandra Ross Hitch and Alex Sutherland are  nominated for the Great-West Life Outstanding Volunteer Award.

 

The award is part of Sport Manitoba’s Night of Champions, where everyone from individual athletes, teams, volunteers, officials and coaches are recognized for excellence in sports.

 

Kissick and Ross Hitch were nominated for their work in co-chairing the Manitoba Winter Games held in Thompson last March.  Sutherland is nominated for his volunteer efforts with the curling program here in the city.

 

The awards event will take place this Saturday in Winnipeg.
