Busy Weekend Of High School Sports Across The North

Category: Local Sports

Local high school sports were in full throttle over the weekend, starting with cross-country action.

Congrats to MBCI for capturing all four available Zone 11 championship banners for the first time ever over the weekend. The next big competition for the cross-country team is provincials, which go down in St. Malo next week. Both MBCI and Oscar Lathlin Collegiate will have runners in attendance representing our area.

Soccer action was in full swing over the weekend as well, with a total of five schools in Flin Flon competing in the Zone 11 Championship.

Both MBCI teams showed out for a majority of the tournament. The MBCI girls came up short in the semifinals, where they fell to the eventual tournament runners-up, R.D. Parker Collegiate.

The MBCI boys, meanwhile, made it to the finals but lost 6-2 to the Trojans of R.D. Parker Collegiate.

In volleyball action, the SV boys were at Goose Lake High School competing in their Raiders Invitational. The boys went 1-3 in round-robin play, then placed seventh in bracket play after beating the Ebb and Flow Thunderbirds.

The JV boys were in Winnipeg at Pembina Trails Collegiate for their Trailhawk Classic. The boys went 0-3 in bracket play and came up short against the Stonewall Rams in the B-Side semifinals.

Lastly, the JV girls had their volleyball action take place at Virden Collegiate for their Fall Classic. The girls went 2-3 in round-robin action but fell in their first game of bracket play against St. Boniface.
