Starting with the SV Boys, after picking up back-to-back wins against Virden and Neepawa, they found themselves in the tournament finale where they unfortunately fell to Lorette 56-61.
The SV Girls also had an incredibly successful tournament, going undefeated against all three teams they faced. They defeated Morden, W.C. Miller, and Dauphin in the tournament final.
With those results, both SV teams have qualified for the MHSAA Provincial AAA Championships, which are set to take place in the coming weeks.
A reminder as well that the JV Boys team at R.D. Parker Collegiate has a chance to bring home a provincial banner starting this Thursday in Winnipeg at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate.
As for the JV Girls, after previously reporting that they had missed out on the second round due to their final game loss against Dauphin, they will actually play one more game to determine if they will advance. The JV Girls will face Edward Schreyer in a “win and you're in” type matchup.
This situation is partly due to both JV tournaments having to run a condensed schedule because of weather that affected the Friday slate of games. Because of those changes, the girls missed out on playing a third-place game, which is why they will now face Edward Schreyer the day before the JV Boys Provincial Tournament begins.
Long story short, if the JV Girls are successful, there is a chance that all four basketball teams at R.D. Parker Collegiate could become AAA Provincial Champions.
