The Northern Manitoba Blizzard managed to squeak out a win last night against the MJHL`s hottest team in the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
According to the latest power rankings, the Wolverines were deemed the number one team to watch out for, especially heading into the postseason. The Blizzard, however, paid no mind to that and were able to knock off Waywayseecappo, reclaiming a one-game lead in their regular-season series.
After a quiet first period, it was Wayway’s Dylan Duzan who opened the scoring to put the Wolverines on the board. In the early stages of the third, Isaac Tomchak buried the equalizer to tie things up at one.
Late in regulation, the Wolverines ran into penalty trouble and were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill. A fortunate puck bounce set up Justin Whitrow perfectly, allowing him to fire home the game-winning goal and secure a much-needed 2–1 victory for Northern Manitoba.
The Blizzard now carry strong momentum into their upcoming two-game doubleheader against Winkler and Winnipeg.
