The Flin Flon Judo Club is back on the mats after the Christmas break, and it is jumping right in to where it left off.
The Club is hosting the fight offs for the Saskatchewan Winter Games on Saturday Jan. 10th. The winners of the divisions on Saturday will represent the North at the games, being held in Meadow Lake on Feb. 18-22.
La Ronge is the other club in the Northern zone, so they will be bringing their athletes down as well. The athletes will compete in a best 2 out of 3 format to determine who attends the games.
The fighters from Flin Flon trying to make the Team North are as follows;
Jacob Wiens +60kg
Jayden Clark +60kg
Zayne Kawerski -60kg
Jacob Hiebert -50kg
Matthew Acta -55kg
Liam Lyon -45kg
Lily Kendrick +53kg
The competition at the games will consist of regular judo (start standing), ne-waza (groundwork) and a team competition where the athletes compete against other zones. There is also a Kodomono Kata competition that athletes will compete in as a duo.
Saturday will also have a training for the team athletes in preparation for the games. They begin Saturday at 11am in the Creighton Sportex.
