Bombers Come Up Empty On The Road

After 6 straight wins,  the Flin Flon Bombers tasted defeat for the first time this season with a pair of losses in Humboldt and Melville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Things started well at the Elgar Peterson Arena on Tuesday with Flin Flon scoring two quick goals in the first 7 minutes with Maverick Deslisle and Joey Lies both finding the back of the net.

The Bombers couldn't sustaine the momentum,  and the Broncos stormed back and took over the scoring , finding the back of the net 5 times for the 5 to 3 win.

Rhett Ewen scored his fourth of the year late in the game to give the Bombers some life, but the Broncos sealed it with an empty netter.

Devin Peck suffered his first loss by giving up 5 goals on 25 shots.

On Wednesday, the Bombers made their way to the CN Community Centre in Melville for the first time to hook up with the Mills.

This time the Bombers spotted the opposition the two first goals with Wesley Golden and Riley Craigen sparking the offense.

Flin Flon did answer when local product Ryder Mucha took advantage of a beautiful Joey Lies pass from the back of the net to get the Bombers on the board.

The Bombers played a great second period holding Melville to just one shot and also got rewarded with the only goal of the period. Reis Arberry re-directed a Emerson Clark shot for his second of the season.

With the game tied at two entering the third period, Melville took advantage of a couple of Bomber mistakes and quickly restored the two goal lead at 4 to 2 . Preston Baerwald and Rylan Oatman scored the goals.

Flin Flon tried to mount the late comeback when Joey Lies took advantage of a 5 on 3 and shot a laser beam over the left shoulder of Mills goalie Noah Sinagowitz. This was Lies fourth goal of the year and he is off to an impressive start considering he only had 5 goals all of last year.

With the goalie pulled, the Bombers tried to tie the game but Melville would find the empty net and pulled out the 5 to 3 win.

Devin Peck suffered his second straight loss and ended the night with 20 saves on 24 shots.

After six straight wins Flin Flon will see their record slip to 6-2 while Melville improves to 3-3-1-1.

The Bombers will get the long weekend off before embarking on a very tough 4 game in 5 night road trip starting in Nipawin on Tuesday. They then head to Yorkton on Wednesday, Weyburn on Friday and ending in Estevan on Saturday.

Our next broadcasts on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will be on October the 24th from Yorkton and the 25th from Humboldt.
