Bombers Hold Off Gutsy Warman Team

It might of looked like a mismatch on paper, but nothing could be further from the truth as the Flin Flon Bombers took on the Warman Wolverines in a pair of games this past weekend.

Warman made their way up North to the Whitney Forum for the first time in franchise history ,  sporting just  one win on the season.

The Wolverines played hard and got great goaltending both games.

Flin Flon took Friday's game 4 to 2 with local product Wyatt Stinton leading the way with a goal and an assist. Other Bomber goals were scored by Joey Lies and Jack Martin who  picked up his first ever SJHL goal.

Warman got goals from former Humboldt Bronco Karson Kerbes and Kane Kennedy.

Taye Timmerman started the game in goal for Warman making his return to Northern Manitoba where he led the MJHL'S Blizzard to a league championship just a few months ago.

Timmerman was assigned to Warman from the WHL'S Saskatoon Blades to stay sharp for his next opportunity in the Western League. The Blizzard traded his rights to Warman last week.

Timmerman didn't disappoint making 36 saves on 40 shots, with some nice highlight reel ones. Not to be out done was the Bombers Matthew Bradley,  who picked up his first SJHL win with 42 saves on 44 shots and looked rock solid.

It was another tight game on Saturday and once again  Warman came out to play and gave the Bombers all they could handle.

In a see saw affair  the Bombers pulled out the 4 to 3 shoot out victory, with Reid Arberry scoring the shootout winner beating Griffin Wright low blocker side.

It looked like Warman might steal this one with a 3 to 2 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the third period. Ryder Mucha had other ideas and was able to bury  his fourth of the season  on a nice pass from Wyatt Stinton to tie the game at three. This was the first time this season that Flin Flon had trailed in the third period.

The other goals came from Rhett Ewen and Maverick Deslisle who scored his first ever SJHL goal.

Warman got a pair from Kane Kennedy and a powerplay goal from Cam Sarna.

Both goalies were steller and were the story once again with Devin Peck back between the pipes for Flin Flon  as  he stopped 20 of 23 for his fifth win of the season.

The Wolverines went with Griffin Wright who stood tall with 38 saves on 41 shots. I wasn't surprised as Wright had a .944 save % coming into the game.

I was very impressed with Warman this weekend and commend them on their great work ethic and I believe are a better team than their record indicates. They now sit at 1-5-0-1.

After the weekend the Bombers remain the only team in the league without a regulation loss and are a perfect 6-0. Flin Flon will now  play their next 8 games on the road in a lot of tough buildings.

They get a stiff  test this week as they head to Humboldt Tuesday and Melville on Wednesday. Tuesday is an 8:30 MB start time and Wednesday is 8pm and both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
