Bombers Continue To Roll

Another good weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers who picked up a pair of wins over Division rivals the Nipawin Hawks and Melfort Mustangs.

On Friday the Maroon and White Express made their way to the Cage in Nipawin for the Hawks home opener and played a complete 60 minites  and were able to pick up the 4 to 1 victory.

Nathan Lalumiere did most of the damage picking up his first ever SJHL hat-trick and he scored all three goals different ways including short handed, a power play marker and even strength.

The other  Bomber goal came from local product Wyatt Stinton who scored a powerplay goal late in the game for his second of the season.

The lone Nipawin goal was scored by Ashton Tait who took advantage of a Bomber give away in their zone.

Flin Flon played a great road game and held the Hawks to 22 shots including only 2 in the second period. Another key was killing a 5 on 3 early in the first period and were 5 for 6 on the PK while going 2 for 11 with the extra attacker.

The Bombers rode the momentum into Saturday as they welcomed the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs to town for the first time this season.

It was a lot different game than the Bombers had seen or played so far this year, a tight checking affair with not a lot of room for the Bomber's to orchestrate their skill and speed.

This is a lot different Mustang team that doesn't feature a lot of high skilled forwards, so they play a tight defensive grind it out style.

Flin Flon were able to persevere and pulled out the 2 to 1 shoot out victory.

Wyatt Stinton scored the only goal in regulation, his second powerplay goal in as many nights taking advantage of a 5 minute major early in the second period. Veteran defenseman Bo Eisner scored for the Mustangs.

The two goaltenders stood tall and kept each other's scorers at bay through the rest of regulation and OT.

After the Mustangs scored first in the shoot-out , local products Wyatt Stinton and Joey Lies both found the back of the net to send Flin Flon to the victory to the delight of the great crowd at the Whitney Forum.

Devin Peck was strong behind the pipes again for the Bombers earning his fourth win of the season with 21 saves and 42 total in the two games this past weekend.

Not to be out done was Mustang goalie Kason Kobelka who ended up with 37 saves on 38 shots.

A great start for the Bombers who remain undefeated on the season at 4-0 and will now prepare for the Warman Wolverines who make their way up North this up coming weekend.

The former Notre Dame Hounds franchise is 1-4 on the season and have just acquired former Blizzard standout goalie Taye Timmerman who was reassigned by  the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL.

Games will be Friday and Saturday with Saturday's game being broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
