Kodiaks Drop Season Opener In Hague

The Creighton Kodiaks travelled down to Hague yesterday to kick off another 6 man football season.

The game was originally supposed to take place in Creighton but due to field conditions the game had to change venues.

Despite being under manned and having to battle the heat,  the Kodiaks played well but came up on the wrong end of a 74 to 60 score.

Matthew Lavis had a good afternoon as we was able to hall in four touchdown catches.  Peyton Pelletier who started his first ever game at quarterback due to injury , threw four touchdown passes and ran in another two.

Other touchdowns came from D. Anaka who scored a pair including a 95 yard kickoff return. Brayden Church played his first ever game and was a beast on defense and  led the way with two interceptions.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk summed up yesterday's game. " I felt pretty confident going into yesterday's game,  and the first drive we get an interception from Brayden Church playing his first ever game.  We get the ball and bang we lose our starting quarterback with a severe ankle injury and it brought everyone down. We did get a touchdown soon after he left to give us a boost. The bottom line is deep in my heart I thought we were the better team , I just thought our depth wasn't there and we just ran out of gas."

The Kodiaks will now get back to practise and try and get some more bodies in the lineup, as they head back on the road to Shellbrook next Thursday September the 18th.

Shellbrook lost their first game to Wakaw so this game could have huge playoff implications. Kickoff will be at 3pm Sask time.
