It was an all rookie clash in the battle of Northern Manitoba last night as the Flin Flon Bombers hosted the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in pre-season hockey action.
It was a game that featured lots of local talent with a combined 8 local players suiting up for the two teams.
The Bombers set the tone early with a couple of first period goals and rode the momentum to a 4 to 2 victory.
Bronson Parker out of Spiritwood Saskatchewan took a nice pass from Michael Donovan just over 8 minutes into the opening frame and Flin Flon never looked back.
The other Bomber goals came from Noah Larre, Hudson Brehaut and Owen Hentschel.
Brehaut just made it into Flin Flon before game time as he was at Regina Pats camp over the weekend. He did play a handful of games for Flin Flon towards the end of last year and did score a goal in the playoffs.
The Blizzard got their goals from Daylin Monias who played for the Norman Northstars last season and Lucas Lorenz out of Grand Prairie.
Cranberry's Logan Grenier started for the Blizzard and stopped 25 out of 27 shots before making way for Kevin Podgurny who stopped 20 out of 22.
The Bombers went with Jaden Blanchette and Jaxon Ford and they combined for 18 saves on 20 shots.
Overall, it was an entertaining game and there was a good quick pace for all three periods.
This was the first of three meetings between the Northern Hockey Rivals who will square off two more times this pre season including this Friday at the Roy H Johnston Arena in The Pas.
You can listen to Friday's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
The Bombers will also travel to Laronge for a pre season meeting with the Ice Wolves this Wednesday for an 8:30 pm Manitoba start.
