Former Bomber Bench Boss Wins SIJHL Championship

Former Flin Flon Bomber bench boss, Larry Wintoneak has led the Kam River Fighting Walleye to an SIJHL Championship.

The Walleye claimed their second Bill Salonen Cup in the last three seasons with a 4 to 3 OT win over the Dryden Ice Dogs on Tuesday night.

Kam River took the Championship series in 6 games and it is the second Championship for Wintoneak in the SIJHL, as he led the Ice Dogs to the inaugural SIJHL title back in 2002.

Wintoneak spent 5 years at the helm for the Bombers between 1997 and 2001 and was the Head Coach the year the Bombers hosted the national championship,  The Royal Bank Cup as it was known at that time.

Larry also coached the Laronge Ice Wolves, Kindersley Klippers, Thunder Bay Flyers and Calgary Buffaloes U-18 AAA.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye will now move on to the Centennial Cup in Calgary with the tournament starting on May the 8th.
