Bombers Are On The Brink

The Flin Flon Bombers are now just  only one loss away from seeing their season come to an end.

After dropping the first two games at the Whitney Forum this past weekend, the series switched venues to Crescent Point Place in Weyburn last night as the Wings kept rolling winning 4 to 1.

Weyburn has taken a commanding three games to none lead out scoring the Bombers 11 to 3 in the three games.

Ethan Dekay had the hot hand for Weyburn last night as he picked up the hat-trick for his first three goals of the playoffs and now has four points in this  series.

Jaxson Ruthven scored the other Wings goal which stood up as the game winner early in the second period. Leighton Carruthers had the lone goal for Flin Flon when he fired a nice shot past Angelo Zol late in the third period.

It was Carruthers second goal of this series and his fifth of the post season. Not bad when you consider he has only played four games.

Flin Flon did out shoot Weyburn 46 to 36, but a lot are coming from the outside and they are having a tough time getting quality chances.

It was one of the few games where specialty teams were not a factor as Weyburn went 0 for 6 and Flin Flon wound up 0 for 4 on the PP.

There are a lot of factors as to why the Bombers are down 3 games to none and you have to certainly give credit to the Wings who are really on a roll.

What stands out to me is the Bombers have had absolutely no momentum in this series and have never had a lead or even been tied. They did have a decent first period last night but still found themselves down a goal after one period.

They need to some how get the first goal tonight and have Weyburn chase them for a change and stay out of the penalty box. An early goal tonight would really help their confidence and may help them get back on track.

Nothing to lose now and they have to go for broke. They have been able to come back from being 3 games down before , including a series with the Battleford Stars a few years back where they lost  the first three and fought  to get it to game 7.

They also dropped the first three games in last year's league final to Melfort only to fight back and get it to 6 games. They say the toughest game to win in a series is the elimination game and the Bombers are hoping that holds true tonight.

Once again  we will take the feed from Weyburn on Country 106 and will provide our own interviews including tonight's pre-game with Bomber Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan at about 7:45.

So make sure you listen in as the Bombers fight to stay alive and get it back to Flin Flon for game 5 on Saturday.
