The Junior Northstars competed in the portage cup this past weekend and despite going winless the coaching staff was encouraged with the teams performance, and were able to take away a lot of positives from the weekend.
The Northstars would drop their two round robin games on Friday 8-6 to the PV Pilots and 4-1 to the CP redwings.
They would then face the Southeast Avalanche in the quarterfinals were they would lose 5-1 despite outshooting their opponent.
The loss would place them in the consolation final were they would play the CP redwings wings and again had trouble capitalizing on their chances and would lose 5-2.
Overall the team played well and it was a good start to their spring hockey season. The PV Pilots would go on to win the portage cup with a 4-3 (SO) win over the southwest barons.
The Northstars will now head to Thompson this coming weekend to participate in the little Cheifs spring tournament.
