Bombers Go 2-2 On Southern Swing

It wasn't the way the Flin Flon Bombers wanted to wrap up their Southern swing with a 4 to 2 setback in Estevan on Saturday.

The Bombers had a tough first period giving up a goal just 23 seconds in when the Bruins  stormed the net,  and Kent Moors was able to shovel in a loose puck past Jake Torget. They made it 2 to 0 midway through the opening period when Luke Hogan picked up his first of the season.

Flin Flon settled down and played very well in both the second and third and cut the deficit to 2 to 1,  when first year Bomber Evan Bossell picked up a puck along the boards and went in and beat Liam Hallet high glove side.

Down just a goal in the third, the Bombers poured it on but it was the Bruins who put the game away with a short handed goal from Odin George and empty netter from Captain Kade Kennedy.

Flin Flon did get a late powerplay goal from Carter Cormier  but it was far to late as the Bruins picked up their first win of the season 4 to 2.

New Bomber tender Jake Torget played well stopping 20 out of 23 and looks like he should have a bright future at only 17 years old. The Estevan goalie Liam Hallett was sensational stopping 41 out of 43  and was the big difference in the game.

Despite losing in Estevan on Saturday the Bombers did manage to go .500 on the trip at 2-2 with wins in Notre Dame and Weyburn after suffering a loss in Yorkton on Tuesday.

The Bomber record will drop to 4-3-1 and are one point behind Melfort for first in the division. Estevan gets their first win of the season and are 1-3-1.

Flin Flon has added a new defenseman in Nathan Schaefer who makes his way to the Bombers from the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the BCHL where he suited up for just two games before coming to Northern Manitoba.

The Bombers will now get a bit of a break between games and won't be back on the ice til this weekend when they face the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home .

Friday the defending league champs make their way to the Whitney Forum with the rematch in Melfort on Saturday which will be our next broadcast of Creighton Furniture Flin Flon Bomber Hockey on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com. It all begins with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:10 Manitoba time.
