Kodiaks Drop Home Opener To Wakaw

It was a tough  second quarter that cost the Creighton  Kodiaks High School Football team  in their home opener yesterday against the Wakaw Warriors losing 32 to 8.

Creighton came in with some momentum after knocking off Shellbrook in the season opener the week before.

It looked like the Kodiaks were going to open the scoring with a 50 yard touchdown run, but the major got called back for a holding penalty and Creighton couldn't get back on track.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Kodiaks started to turn the ball over and gave up 26 straight points in the second quarter  and had a huge deficit coming out for the second half.

The Kodiaks made some adjustments and played very well on defense and out scored Wakaw 8 to 6 in the second half. The only Wakaw major came when Creighton turned the ball over just outside their goal line.

Creighton got their lone  touchdown courtesy of Ethan Lavis who scored on a 20 yard run on the reverse. Rogan Hlady kicked the convert.

Ryan Karakochuk took some solice that his team played better in the second half. " Yeah I was pretty animated in the half time with the team and I wanted to see what type of guts we had and win the second half and we did that. I thought we could of clawed back even more, we got stopped at the three yard line with a fumble going in.  We can take some positives out of this but at the end of the day you have to play four quarters to win and we didn't."

Creighton falls to 1-1 on the season and will take the rest of the week to regroup and get ready for Hague next Thursday at 3pm Manitoba time.
