After a sluggish first period on Friday night, the Flin Flon Bombers found their rhythm and took care of the Laronge Ice Wolves 7 to 3.
The Bomber vets shined with Anthony Piccininno leading the way with 5 assists, Carter Anderson picked up 2 goals and an assist and Keefe Gruener found the back of the net twice.
Other Flin Flon goals came from Luke Lepper, Joey Lies and new comer Charlie Blake.
Laronge got their goals from Ryan Silzer, Hudson Cameron and Nolan Smith.
After a tough first period where the Bombers were outshot 17 to 13, Flin Flon was able to hold the Wolves to just 5 shots over the next two periods and ended up out shooting Laronge 45 to 22.
Both teams had success on the powerplay with Flin Flon going 3 for 6 and Laronge 2 for 4.
Both teams also used two goalies with the Bombers starting veteran Kenny Marquart who stopped 16 of 19 before making way for Massimo Urbani who only had to stop three shots in his direction.
The two Laronge goalies were much busier with Max Fowle allowing 4 goals on 19 shots and Joe Verardi stopped 23 of 26.
The Bombers will improve to 2-0 in the pre season while Laronge falls to 1-2. Flin Flon did dress a lot of their vets while the Wolves left some of their better players at home including Jacob Cossette and Maeson Bueckert.
Flin Flon will now head to Melfort to face the Mustangs on Monday night in a rematch of this past spring's SJHL final. This will be the Mustangs first pre-season game so I am assuming they will dress a lot of rookies.
After the game in Melfort on Monday, the Bombers will prepare for the battle of Northern Manitoba with the MJHL'S Northern Manitoba Blizzard. The Blizzard are coming off a very good season in which they were just one goal away from going to the league final. They have looked outstanding in the pre-season with three straight victories including a 12 to 1 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night.
The games will take place in the Pas on Wednesday at the Roy H Johnston Arena, then back at the Whitney Forum on Friday night. Wednesday's game will start at 7 and will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the pre game at 6:40pm.
We will also broadcast Friday's game at the Forum with the pre game at 7:10.
