It is a great start for the Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team who went into Shellbrook yesterday and picked up a hard fought 36 to 34 victory.

 

This is the second year that the Kodiaks are competing in the 2A Division who will try to improve on their 1-4 finish last season and obviously a win on the road yesterday will go a long way in doing that.

 

Creighton pulled out the come from behind win yesterday in a game that went back and forth throughout the afternoon.

 

The Kodiaks trailed by 8 points with just over 4 minutes to go, tied the game and went ahead on an interception with just over 2 minutes remaining.

 

Shellbrook could of tied the game with a late touchdown of their own but failed to tie it when they missed the two point convert.

 

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk says it was a very emotional win.

 

" What a game it was,  and I thought on paper we had a really good chance with our seniors and some of the players they lost from last year. We were definately more physical then them from start to finish and we pushed them around for a good part of the game. Unfortunately we started to turn the ball over and allowed them to take the lead late. With 5 minutes left we came back and tied it, them took the lead to win it and held them off. We are starting to learn how to play,  adapt, how to win and how to finish games." 

 

Creighton was led offensively by Peyton Pelletier who had a pair of touchdowns, Mathew Lavis who scored on a 50 yard pass, Rogan Hlady and Josh Trumbley who scored on a 30 yard run.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, Quinton Lycan led the way with 17 tackles.

 

The Kodiaks will now prepare for their home opener which is supposed to go next Thursday at 4 VS Wakaw. The game may have to be moved to Friday with an announcement expected later today.

 

Wakaw is also 1-0 after beating Hague in their opener yesterday 44 to 30.
