Let the good times roll as the Roller Goodwin Memorial Hockey tournament will start later this afternoon at the Whitney Forum.

 

This is a special weekend for a couple of reasons. First, it is back in Flin Flon and it is also the 50th anniversary of the event.

 

The tournament was designed as a way for Flin Flonner's to connect by bringing their families to different parts of the country,  and playing a fun tournament for about three days which was usually Easter weekend.

 

Back in the day , the tournament usually went back and forth between Calgary and Banff. It has evolved throughout the years with a lot of new faces and now takes place in Flin Flon every two years.

 

A lot of people that started this tournament 50 years ago have passed on but it is nice to see the legendary tournament continue.

 

Besides the hockey there will also be a social and dance at the Flin Flon Community Hall on Sunday and tickets are still available by contacting the Bombers office.

 

Action starts this afternoon with : The Doughboys VS The Firemen at 4, followed by Team Crone against Kro's Pros at 5:30, Team Chuddy will battle Team Donaghy at 7, Team Rideout takes on Team Beachamp at 8:30 with the Bomber Alumni squaring off with  the Dump Bears at 10.
