Northstars Finish Preseason Tournament With Dominant Win

The Norman Northstars have some momentum heading into the Manitoba “AAA” Midget Hockey League season following a 1-2 weekend in Souris.

The NorMan squad opened up the tournament Friday with a 7-2 loss against the host Southwest Cougars. Returning forward Mikey Baron had one of the goals, with newcomer Richard Duchamp potting the other.

Saturday saw the Northstars play the Central Plains Capitals, one of the four teams that they were able to beat last year. Keistin Saunders and Chase Muswagon scored for the Northstars, but it wasn’t enough as the Capitals skated away with a 5-2 victory.

In what the scoreboard shows as a night-and-day transformation, the NorMan squad finished the weekend earlier today with an emphatic 8-2 stomping of the Interlake Lightning. Six players scored for the Northstars, including Mikey Baron who had three.

The Northstars, who finished last year with a record of 4-43-1, will open up the season on the road next Friday (September 28th) in Brandon against the Wheat Kings.

The team will open up the home portion of their schedule on Thanksgiving weekend when they welcome the Winnipeg Bruins to the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.
