King Miners Fall in Finals

The Thompson Midget "AA" King Miners competed in the Manitoba Hockey rural AA/A Provincial tournament at the C.A. Nesbitt arena over the weekend, where they experienced their only two losses of the season.

The Miners fell 4-1 to the Beausejour Blades on Saturday night and again to the Blades in the final on Sunday, 4-3.

Thompson opened up the tournament Friday afternoon against league rival Cross Lake. The King Miners easily took the game 7-0.

Friday night was a tough fight for the Miners, who faced their first real tough challenge of the season. The Beausejour Blades fought hard and ended up winning 4-1 after head coach Michael Lafreniere had been ejected from the game.

Saturday saw Thompson win both their games, in the afternoon against The Pas Huskies and in the evening against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Sunday afternoon, the final took place between the 3-1 Thompson King Miners and the 4-0 Beausejour Blades.

The Blades got out to an early lead and never looked back despite a late push from the King Miners.

Final Manitoba Hockey rural AA/A Provincial Standings:

  1. Beausejour Blades
  2. Thompson King Miners
  3. Swan Valley Stampeders
  4. The Pas Huskies
  5. Cross Lake Islanders
