Wheat Kings Edges Blades Twice

Reid Duke and Tyler Coulter scored in the shootout as the Brandon Wheat Kings secured a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades Friday night.

Markson Bechtold scored in his Blades debut. The veteran forward was acquired late Thursday in a deal with the Spokane Chiefs. He opened the scoring late in the first period only to see Linden McCorrister score his first of the campaign 36 seconds later to tie the game 1-1 after 20 minutes and spark the shower of teddy bears from the crowd at Westman Place.

Lukus MacKenzie notched his fourth goal of the season 3:05 into the second period, giving the Blades a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.

Duke used a power-play opportunity to tie the game 2-2 late in the third period, forcing overtime with 3:32 to go in regulation.

Logan Thompson made 29 saves plus two more in the shootout to claim his fourth win of the season.

The next day, Connor Gutenberg scored the game winning goal with just over a minute to go to beat the Blades again 3-2 in Saskatoon.
