A girl’s basketball team in God’s Lake is hoping to fundraise for a trip to play in a Toronto tournament after losing one of their players to suicide.

The Gods Lake Narrows School's girl’s team is trying to raise $17,000 to compete in the tournament in April.

Coach and math teacher Kishma Davidson says the team has come together hoping to achieve their goal.

Davidson says the loss of one her players affected her, and made this project her main goal, including working overtime in hoping to achieve sponsors.

Davidson began teaching in the remote fly-in community in September. There are 18 girls on the team, ranging in age from 11 to 16. Davidson is hoping they can raise the full amount by April 1.
