Manitoba Proposes Safety Changes for Cannabis Store Workers

Category: Local News

The Manitoba government has introduced legislation aimed at making cannabis stores safer for workers.

Bill 56 would remove the requirement for storefront window coverings, allowing people outside to see into stores and reducing workers’ isolation from public view.

It would also give the province’s Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority power to set minimum staffing levels during certain hours, so employees aren’t working alone when the risk of violence may be higher.

The proposed changes follow discussions with UFCW Local 832 after violent incidents at cannabis stores.
