On September 26, 2026, at 4:15 a.m., Chemawawin RCMP received a report of shots being fired outside a residence in the community.

 

While officers were en route to the scene, they received a report of a male youth that had been brought to the Easterville nursing station with very serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Police attended the nursing station and learned the 17-year-old victim was assaulted by a group of five or six male suspects, all of whom were youths.

 

The victim who suffered injuries from a machete and pellets from a firearm, was later transported to Winnipeg in stable condition for further treatment.

 

The suspects were known to the victim.

 

Two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

 

All three have been remanded.

 

Police are continuing to look for one remaining suspect. There is no threat to public safety.
