The Port of Churchill could play a much larger role in Canada’s trade future, with Arctic Gateway Group looking at billions of dollars in potential improvements to the port and Hudson Bay Railway.

President and CEO Chris Avery says decades of underinvestment mean significant upgrades are still needed, but the railway is already in better condition than it has been in years.

Avery says increased trade through Churchill could also create construction, business and long-term economic opportunities here in Thompson and across northern Manitoba.
