Pimicikamak Okimawin is calling on licensed moose hunters to return licences issued for areas within its traditional territory.

In a statement released Friday, Pimicikamak says Manitoba violated its Treaty and constitutional rights, as well as the Northern Flood Agreement, by issuing licences to non-Indigenous hunters.

Chief David Monias says the 1977 agreement gives Pimicikamak citizens first priority to wildlife resources within its Resource Area.

The First Nation is asking anyone who received a moose hunting licence for Game Hunting Areas 3 and 3A within Pimicikamak territory to send it back to Manitoba’s Minister of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures.
