CUPE Manitoba is calling on the province to reconsider contracts with American companies and bring more public-sector work back to Manitoba.

The union released a five-point plan Friday, saying the province should prioritize local workers as Canada continues its push to support domestic businesses.

Among its proposals, CUPE wants Manitoba to end its Dynacare contract and review American contracts involving Crown corporations, school divisions and cleaning services.

The union is also calling for a review of Manitoba Hydro contracts, including its IT call centre, with the goal of bringing more work in-house.

CUPE Manitoba President Gina McKay says the changes could keep more public dollars in Canada while creating jobs for Manitoba workers.
