Thompson is receiving roughly 300-thousand dollars from the Canadian Red Cross to strengthen the city’s wildfire preparedness.

Mayor Colleen Smook says the funding covers the cost of the value protection trailer purchased following last year’s wildfire season, while the city is also advocating for a second trailer to increase coverage.

Smook says the equipment could therefore support not only Thompson, but other northern communities when needed.
