On August 28, 2026, at approximately 3pm., Shamattawa RCMP were called to an assault at the Northern Store in the community.
Officers immediately responded to the scene where they located a seriously injured male suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound.
The initial investigation determined the male suspect, who was known to the victim, was still on the scene and was arrested without incident.
The 36-year-old victim was transported to the local nursing station where he succumbed to his injuries.
Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services deployed to the community and took carriage of the investigation.
Rodney Beardy, 58, from Shamattawa, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the male’s death and remains in custody.
Manitoba RCMP MSC, Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
