RCMP Raises E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety Concerns

RCMP are raising concerns about unsafe e-bike and e-scooter use in Thompson, after seeing riders without helmets, wearing headphones and ignoring traffic signs and pedestrians.

Special Constable Rob Cleveland says the speed and maneuverability of these vehicles can quickly turn a mistake into something serious.

Cleveland pointed to a recent incident where a 46-year-old Minnedosa man was killed after losing control of an electric scooter. He also cited national youth data showing 10 children have died from e-scooter and e-bike injuries.

RCMP are reminding riders to wear helmets, follow traffic rules and treat these vehicles as more than just toys.
