Churchill Shipping Research

New research is pointing to the possibility of year-round shipping through the Port of Churchill.

The Manitoba and federal governments say studies found existing ice-class vessels and current Arctic operating experience could make year-round navigation through the Churchill shipping corridor possible.

The research also found declining sea ice is extending the navigable season, with potential benefits for northern supply chains, resource exports, community resupply and Indigenous economic participation.

Premier Wab Kinew says the findings could help attract new investment and trading partnerships through Churchill.
