The Northern Health Region is highlighting a community-led program aimed at supporting suicide prevention and promoting mental well-being across the North.
Roots of Hope brings local committees together to develop initiatives based on the needs of their communities, including awareness events and activities surrounding mental health and suicide prevention.
Mental Health Promotion Specialist Sandesh says the program gives communities a direct role in deciding how that support looks.
World Suicide Prevention Day is observed each year on September 10, with communities able to organize their own activities ranging from awareness walks and information booths to music, barbecues and other gatherings.
People interested in getting involved with Roots of Hope can contact their local primary health-care centre and ask to speak with a mental health promotion specialist.
