MKO Ribbon Skirt Workshop Celebrates Culture and Identity

A ribbon skirt and vest workshop coming up in Thompson is giving participants an opportunity to connect with culture, identity and tradition through their own creations.

The workshop is being hosted through Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak and is open to members of its 26 First Nations living in Thompson.

Interest has been strong, with all available spaces in the workshop now filled.

MKO M-M-I-W-G-2S Plus Cultural and Land-Based Support Liaison Christine Sawatsky says creating a ribbon skirt allows participants to express themselves through the colours and designs they choose.

To hear more from Christine and MKO Traditional Healer Program Manager Shyanna Lynxleg about the meaning behind ribbon skirts and the importance of passing cultural knowledge forward, tune in to Thompson Today at 12:40 and 5:10
