Crime prevention doesn’t always begin after a crime has happened. According to the Thompson RCMP, making a few simple changes around your home can go a long way toward reducing opportunities for thieves before they ever strike.

 

Special Constable Rob Cleveland with the Thompson RCMP says many of the best crime prevention measures are simple but effective.

 

 

Cleveland says keeping yards maintained, locking vehicles and doors, and working with neighbours to watch over each other’s property can all help discourage criminal activity.

 

He also explains how the RCMP uses Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or CPTED, to identify ways properties can be made safer.
