A lockdown in Pimicikamak Cree Nation has been lifted following an arrest in the investigation into a fatal shooting that prompted emergency measures over the weekend.
RCMP have said they were searching for a suspect after a man died from a gunshot wound in the community.
While police have made an arrest, Chief David Monias says the Nation is still awaiting RCMP confirmation that the person in custody is responsible for the crime.
In a public statement, Monias thanked residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the lockdown, as well as frontline workers, community volunteers, and the RCMP for their efforts.
He says essential services and local businesses have resumed operations, Treaty and Indian Days events will continue, and the community is now focused on healing while the investigation continues.
