Residents interested in running for municipal office in Thompson can now officially register as candidates for the upcoming general municipal election.

The City of Thompson says registration is open for those seeking the offices of mayor, councillor or school trustee.

Candidates must register before accepting campaign contributions, borrowing money, fundraising or incurring campaign expenses.

To be eligible, candidates must be at least 18 years old on election day, be Canadian citizens, and have lived in or owned property in Thompson for at least six months as of the October 28 election.

Prospective candidates have until September 22 to register with the city’s Senior Election Official.
