The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is standing with Shamattawa First Nation after the community declared a State of Emergency in response to a Hepatitis A outbreak.
AMC says the declaration highlights the urgent need for stronger public health measures, increased healthcare capacity, and sustained investments to address the conditions that contribute to the spread of preventable infectious diseases.
The organization is calling on both Manitoba and Canada to work alongside Shamattawa to provide immediate support while addressing long-term health inequities facing First Nations communities.
