On May 23, 2026, at 10:05 pm, Thompson RCMP received a report of a vehicle having collided with a hydro pole on Thompson Drive North.
Additional calls began to come in that this same vehicle had been observed driving erratically in a nearby parking lot prior to the collision.
Officers attended to the scene and located the vehicle, with two occupants, which had sustained extensive damage after coming to a stop in the westbound lane.
The driver, a 56-year-old male from Thompson, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The 53-year-old female passenger, also from Thompson, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Thompson RCMP, with assistance of RCMP Traffic Services, continue to investigate.
