What broadband changes day-to-day

Nearly 50-million dollars is going toward high-speed internet connectivity for several northern Manitoba First Nations.

The federal announcement includes the Island Lake region, with Wasagamack First Nation, Garden Hill, St. Theresa Point, and Red Sucker Lake all named in the project.

Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs Rebecca Chartrand says for many remote communities, broadband is about much more than faster internet.

Chartrand says reliable internet can affect everything from health care and education to banking, employment, and keeping in touch with family.

The new broadband service is expected to be live by March 2029.
