On May 13, 2026, at 11:44 p.m., Shamattawa RCMP received a report of an incident of intimate partner violence that had occurred in the community. The victim went to a safe place earlier in the day when her partner attended this place and subsequently assaulted her.
Police attended immediately and found an unresponsive female inside a residence. The victim, 32, was transported to the local nursing station with life-threatening injuries, then flown to hospital in Winnipeg for further care. On May 14, the victim died as a result of her injuries.
Keith Miles, 27, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with aggravated assault. That charge has since been upgraded to manslaughter.
He remains in custody.
Shamattawa RCMP, along with the Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate.
