Safe Boating Awareness Week is launching across Canada as Manitobans prepare to get back on the water for the first long weekend of the season.
The campaign runs from May 16th to 22nd and is being promoted by the Canadian Safe Boating Council, the Manitoba Coalition for Safer Waters and Lifesaving Society Manitoba.
They’re reminding boaters about five key safety messages: wear your lifejacket, boat sober, be prepared, take a boating course and be cold-water safe.
Officials say more than 12 million Canadians spend time on the water each year, and the goal is to reduce preventable boating incidents through awareness and education.
