The City of Thompson is encouraging residents to download the new MB Ready app as wildfire season gets underway.

 

The app provides real-time, location-based emergency information for things like severe weather, wildfires, floods, road closures, and other hazards.

 

The province says MB Ready is meant to bring emergency alerts and public safety updates into one place.  

 

Lawrence McDonald, Municipal Emergency Coordinator for the City of Thompson, says the app is different from the emergency alerts people may already receive on their phones.

 

 

McDonald says the app is available now, and residents can also set watch zones for different areas of Manitoba, which can be helpful for people travelling or keeping an eye on conditions elsewhere in the province.
