Some Thompson residents are raising concerns after basement flooding on streets including Mallard Crescent, Westwood Drive and Juniper.

 

Mayor Colleen Smook says the city has received some complaints, and she has personally checked in on some affected homeowners.

 

She says part of the issue is the amount of snow around homes, combined with a fast spring melt and frozen ground that can’t absorb the water.

 

Smook says the heavy April snowfall and sudden thaw have put extra pressure on drainage systems.
 

 

Smook says residents should also check around their homes where possible, especially near window wells, to help keep melt water from getting into basements.
