Rapid Melt Causing Drainage Issues in Thompson

Warm weather is creating some localized flooding in Thompson as rapid melting puts extra pressure on the city’s storm drain system.

The City of Thompson says Public Works crews were out Tuesday evening clearing debris from catch basins, flushing storm drainage lines, checking outflows, and removing some storm drain grates to help standing water drain faster.

Crews are expected to continue that work through the day and into the evening today.

Drivers are being asked to watch for flooded areas, including Cree Road between Deerwood Drive and Juniper Drive, and to use alternate routes if their vehicles can’t safely make it through.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also being reminded to stay clear of puddles, barriers, excavation areas, and open storm drains.
