On April 11, 2026, at 1:40 am, Gypsumville RCMP responded to a firearms complaint in Lake St. Martin First Nation. A male had threatened a community member with bear spray and was in the possession of a handgun.
The suspect was not located immediately which led to an arrest warrant being issued for the arrest of Brayden McKay, 24, from Lake St. Martin First Nation.
Further investigation led officers to the execution of a search warrant for firearms at a residence within Lake St. Martin First Nation.
On May 3, 2026, Gypsumville RCMP, along with the RCMP Manitoba East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and General Investigative Section, executed the search warrant.
Brayden McKay was located within the residence and was arrested without incident.
RCMP located and seized a sawed-off rifle, ammunition, a BB gun, parts of a dismantled firearm and possible drugs.
McKay has been remanded into custody and charged with:
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purposes x 2
- Fail to comply with conditions of an Undertaking x 3
- Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition without a licence
- Possession of a firearm without a licence knowing its possession is unauthorised
- Unlawful storage of firearm
- Possession of ammunition contrary to order
Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
