Wildfire prevention work is coming to several Thompson neighbourhoods, as the city receives funding through a Wawanesa wildfire prevention grant.

 

Thompson Fire and Emergency Services says the project will focus on reducing risks in areas along the tree line, including Eastwood, Riverside, Westwood, and Burntwood.

 

Fire Chief Dennis Benson explains what that work will involve.

 

 

The work includes removing debris, clearing dead branches, and addressing areas where fires could spread into residential properties.

 

Officials say the goal is to reduce the chances of wildfire reaching homes before fire season intensifies.
