The City of Thompson is a recipient this year of a one-time Orange Shirt Day Fund grant.

They were notified of the 9-thousand dollar grant in a letter from Premier Wab Kinew at the end of August.

The funds will be used to planning the City’s “Every Child Matters - Orange Shirt Day” event.

According to the City’s application, it will work in partnership with Ma Mow We Tak Friendship Centre to organize and facilitate events for Friday, September 27th.

Those events will include having Elders and survivors sharing their stories, educational crafts for children and the display of orange lights on city buildings.

There will also be a design competition for a Truth and Reconciliation Banner.
