The Pas RCMP officer injured after responding to call for assistance

On Saturday afternoon, an RCMP officer in The Pas sustained injuries during an attempted arrest at a residence in The Pas.

RCMP received a report about a man threatening residents in the home.

When police attempted to arrest the man, he struck one of the officers, causing the officer to fall backward and sustain a serious injury. The man then fled the residence.

Another RCMP officer saw the suspect on a nearby road and arrested Harvey Bignell, 31, from Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

Bignell was on house arrest for a previous offence and should not have been outside of his residence.

He is facing numerous charges including assault and resisting arrest.  He is remanded in custody.

The officer was treated at hospital and has since been released.
