Early Saturday morning, Cross Lake RCMP were dispatched to a structure fire at a residence located in Cross Lake Cree Nation.

Upon arrival, RCMP officers learned that neighbours had tried, unsuccessfully, to rescue an individual, who was inside the house when the fire started.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters from Cross Lake Volunteer Fire Department entered the home and located the bodies of two deceased individuals. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Cross Lake RCMP, along with RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
