Team Manitoba took top honors, followed by Team Hudbay in the 61st Manitoba Provincial Mine Rescue Competition hosted by Tanco Mine this past weekend.
More than 24 elite mine rescue personnel went head-to-head to determine the best in the province.
Team Manitoba consisted of Sylvain Amyotte and Len Bellin of Tanco, Jacob Vancoughnet and Dean Rainville from Hudbay, and Bridget Corriveau and Frank Bushby from Vale.
In taking first place, Team Manitoba's accomplishments are impressive, considering the members were only assembled just prior to the competition. The results are a true testament to the quality of training for the benefit of mutual aid between mines.
Mine Rescue Competition Co-chair Stacy Kennedy said the competition showcases the dedication, intense training and preparedness of the men and women in the industry and the quality of the program here in Manitoba.
Next year’s event is slated for May 23 & 24 in Thompson, hosted by Vale Manitoba Operations.
